Coaching & Workshops: Approach

I started my career as a trainer of "soft skills" courses like "Communication", "How to Give and Receive Feedback" and "Inspiration to Work". Once I qualified as a coach, I started using the coaching approach during workshops. I discovered that "meeting people where they are" is far more effective than continually telling them what to do. Learning is more effective when we let people come to the answers in their own way. I also found that my improved listening skills helped me to understand the needs of participants better. People were far more engaged in a training session with a facilitator who didn't have to be "right" all the time and who had the capacity to allow the wisdom in the room to enhance the learning process.

This is the approach I bring to any facilitation I undertake. It's often about creating clear boundaries and building relationship through conversation.

My coaching approach is practical and compassionate. I pay attention to the whole person so that the practical needs of life can be served (eg. get the promotion) as well as the spiritual (eg. find more joy in every moment). I draw from established self-awareness tools and research like the Enneagram, Ontology and Neuroscience to support my clients' journeys where appropriate. I hold my clients accountable for their goals and actions so that coaching remains a space of honesty, respect and trust.  This makes meaningful shifts possible.
